Established in 1992 as the first childhood bereavement charity in the UK Winston’s Wish remains dedicated to supporting children after the death of a parent or sibling. The death of a parent or sibling is one of the most fundamental losses a child will ever face. At Winston’s Wish, we believe that bereaved children need support to make sense of death and rebuild their lives. Winston’s wish provides professional therapeutic help in individual, group and residential settings via our national helpline, interactive website and publications. Our professionally qualified clinical practitioners provide bereaved children and their families with a range of support services. Winston’s Wish offers a wide range of practical support and guidance to children, families and professionals and anyone concerned about bereaved children. Our services give bereaved families the opportunity to talk about and make sense of what has happened, to meet with us and to meet others in a similar situation.

For families who have been bereaved through an accident, illness or suicide, this service is only available for families living in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Sussex, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire, Staffordshire and Cumbria. If you live out of these counties, we will be able to support you if you can travel into one of our regional offices or drop in’s. Alternatively you can be supported from the helpline. For families who have been bereaved through murder or manslaughter, or there is a connection to the military, the service is available to families nationally.
